SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
The Substation Engineer will plan current andfuture substation improvement projects and perform substation structural andelectrical design. The SubstationEngineer will also work with substation and area employees to effectivelyexpand, improve, maintain, and validate substation interests.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· AllNorthWestern Energy employees are required to adhere to company safetystandards
· Ensureall actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, andstrategic business objectives
· Providetechnical support for South Dakota Substation and Transmission and DistributionOperations
· Assistin preparing substation capital and operation and maintenance (O&M)projects
· Developa comprehensive work plan and facilitate implementation
· Designand evaluate substation projects meeting all applicable codes and standards
· Evaluatenew projects/services to determine if they are applicable to NorthWesternEnergy
· Assistin developing and implementing substation construction and O&M Standardsand Guidelines
· Performeconomic evaluations for projects and work within budget/plan financialparameters
· Developtraining programs
· Developand maintain a good working relationship with vendors
· Procurematerials and assist in materials management for substations and the SDtransformer shop
· Ensureall substation drawing and CASCADE database records are complete and up to date
· Ensureall regulatory requirements are understood and met
· Prioritizeand plan maintenance for substation equipment
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
· Mustbe able to demonstrate a good safety record
· Mustpossess strong interpersonal communication skills
· Adegree in engineering required; Civil, Structural, or Electrical degreespreferred
· Musthave good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with others
· Goodcomputer skills required including the ability to work in Access, Excel, andAutoCAD
· Mustbe available and willing to assist after regular business hours in emergencies
· Musthave a good working knowledge of the NESC, NEW, and Uniform Building Code
· Musthave demonstrated ability to use and learn specialized software such as RISAfor structural analysis
